Banking Apps Detect Android Accessibility Services

Overview

Some banking applications may refuse to operate normally or display a security warning when an Android Accessibility Service is enabled.

This behavior is independent of our application and is the result of security measures implemented by the bank.

Why do banking apps do this?

Android Accessibility Services allow applications to interact with the device's user interface to assist users with accessibility needs. However, these services can also be misused by malicious software to read screen content or perform automated actions.

For security reasons, many banking applications simply detect whether any Accessibility Service is enabled. If one is active, they may consider the device environment to be less secure and restrict access to the application.

Is this caused by our application?

No.

Our application uses the Android Accessibility Service as intended and in accordance with the Android platform guidelines. The detection is performed entirely by the banking application, based on its own security policies.

Each bank defines and enforces its own security requirements.

Is there a solution?

Unfortunately, no.

There is no official or reliable way to prevent a banking application from detecting that an Android Accessibility Service is enabled.

Bypassing this detection would require modifying Android system behavior or the banking application's security mechanisms, which is neither possible nor recommended.

What can I do?

If you need to use a banking application that blocks access when Accessibility Services are enabled, the only practical workaround is to:

  • Temporarily disable the Accessibility Service.
  • Use the banking application.
  • Re-enable the Accessibility Service afterward if needed.

The exact behavior depends on each bank and may change with future updates to their application.

Summary

The detection of Android Accessibility Services is a security feature implemented by banking applications. This behavior is entirely controlled by each bank and cannot be disabled or bypassed by our application. At this time, there is no available solution to prevent this detection.
